Stronger Together -- Women & LGBTQ Justice Conference

Women are now in charge in Lansing and dynamic changes are already happening! This "Stronger Together -- Women and LGBTQ Justice" conference provides the opportunity to hear exciting speakers, to learn about policies that affect the lives of women and LGBTQ people and build skills to become a better ally for both groups. Making the connection can strengthen both movements.

Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. Brunch 11 a.m. to noon. Program starts at noon. Panel presentation on policy issues; workshops on policy issues and how to be an ally of women and LGBTQ people.

SPEAKERS: Rep. Christine Greig, House Minority Leader; Rep. Erika Geiss, Vice Chair, Michigan Progressive Women's Caucus (invited); Emily Clancy, Organizer, Planned Parenthood of Michigan; Jay Kaplan, Staff Attorney, Michigan ACLU LGBT Project; Corporal Dani Woods, Detroit Police Dept. LGBT Liaison; and Judy Lewis, Training & Education Coordinator for SAGE (LGBT elders).

  • Protecting abortion rights in Michigan after a Kavanaugh court;

  • Fighting the Trump administration "gag" rule;

  • Restoring access to family planning services;

  • Making the Elliot Larsen Civil Rights LGBTQ inclusive;

  • The (federal) Equality Act;

  • Honoring LGBTQ parents new rights to become adoptive and foster parents;

  • Women giving birth to children in prison.



The conference is being developed/supported by over 15 women's and LGBTQ empowering organizations including the Birmingham Unitarian Church; Planned Parenthood of Michigan; American Association of University Women; United Church of Christ - Michigan Conference; Fems for Dems; Fems for Change; Equality Michigan; Stand with Trans; Women's March Michigan; Inclusive Justice; Oakland-Macomb NOW; SAGE Metro Detroit; Metropolitan Church of Detroit; Catholics for Choice; Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice; UU Fellowship of Central Michigan; Northwest UU Church; and the Michigan Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Network.
